Chiew Kok Ying (1902-1997) My beloved maternal Por Por (Grandma)

I am posting this to serve as an eternal electronic record of the existence of my grandma in this world. She passed away on the exact same day Hongkong was returned to China. As she laid on her death bed in the hospice, I alone had the good fortune to be beside her, gently stroking her forehead while at the same time chanting Nam-myo-ho-renge-kyo into her ears, till her last breath. None of her children were around. I shared a very special and close bond with my grandma since my primary school days, a billion times more so than my very own biological parents. I feel that it was only my por por who gave me unconditional love. Even till this very day. I take heart that my por por had the great fortune to be able to practice Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism while alive. I can still and will forever remember the rhythm, diction, speed and tonality of her chanting. Por por I miss you so much. See you again in our future lives.
